For All You Dry Skin Havers and Haters Out There, This One’s for You, Babe

Does your skin feel like the Sahara Desert in August? Do you drink water like it’s your job, but to no avail?  Do you tremble when products promise to “mattify” your skin? Is alcohol your arch nemesis? Because, same.

For all you dry skin havers and haters out there, this one’s for you, babe.

I’d never dabbled in the world of acids before and to be totally honest, I still don’t fully understand what each of them are supposed to do. The one that I have mastered though, is hyaluronic acid.

It’s said that acids penetrate your skin deeper than your typical skincare products like serums and moisturizers. Hyaluronic acid works to hydrate your skin from beneath the surface.

When I learned this, I obviously had to pinch myself to make sure this was still real life as no products had ever plumped my skin for more than a few hours. Fortunately for you, I’ve done the dirty work to test this bad boy out to see if things really go down the way we’ve been promised.

About a month ago I purchased the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 from The Ordinary as an impulse buy so that I could also order the Milk Makeup Luminous Blur Stick Primer using points, a primer that I actually ended up not loving. Fortunately, the product I spent my actual dollars on was LIFE CHANGING.

I chose The Ordinary as the jumping off point for my acid exploring journey as I’ve heard nothing but good things about the brand and their hyaluronic acid, specifically, is  formulated to be alcohol-free, oil-free, silicone-free, nut-free, vegan, Gluten-free, and cruelty-free. Plus it’s only $6.80 at Sephora – talk about a win-win.

I use this hyaluronic acid every night before bed right after toner and serum and before moisturizers, oils, etc. Skincare is basically my religion so I always take care to only test one new product at a time so that I can identify which products are making the difference in my skin.

Pro Tip: This works for the negative side of new products as well. If you’re trying out more than one new product at a time and something is not reacting well with our skin, it will take you longer to identify which products are not compliant with your skin type.

The first times I tried this product, it didn’t seem like anything to write home about. Yes, my skin felt nice, but I didn’t notice any immediate difference. But I kept chugging away because most products do take a few weeks to really cause an impact.

Two weeks later, and boy oh boy did we have an impact alright.

The first time I really noticed a difference in my skin was actually right before bed. I was staying in Boston, where I’d been working anywhere from 10-17 hours a day at an event and with the air being so much colder and drier than San Diego, I was not expecting my skin to be my friend.

It was the end of the day and I was ready to get into bed with zero makeup on, and my two day old hair up in a bun, and when I went to turn the lights out, I was taken aback by a glimpse of my skin which was absolutely glowing. My face looked plump and hydrated which obviously caught me completely off guard in comparison to what I had been expecting during my stay on the east coast.

Long story short, this is now a staple in my routine. I use it every night in conjunction with my other miracle workers, and now have consistently juicy looking skin when I wake up. I couldn’t recommend this to all my dry skin friends anymore if I tried and I eagerly anticipate testing out more from the brand.
