Does anyone else secretly have a ridiculous obsession with KathleenLights? No? Just me? Okay.
Well she started a nail polish line called KL Polish a while back and I couldn’t wait to try alllllll the colors, but alas, they were pricey and I was broke.
Unfortunate for the beautiful and talented Kathleen, but super lucky for me, KL Polish is sadly coming to an end and I was able to pick up a few colors at a way more reasonable price.
Upon doing some research on the brand, I learned that KL Polish is “12-Free,” meaning it’s free from a lot of toxic chemicals used in other polishes like Formaldehyde, and Parabens, and there are no Animal Derived Ingredients.
Color me SOLD.
Magic City Sophie
Although many of the colors were sold out, I managed to snag the colors “Magic City” and “Sophie,” my two favorite from the line. Initially, I was a little skeptical because how good can a nail polish get, right? My $2 nail polish from Walmart works just fine, I wasn’t expecting this to perform 5x as well.
But boy was I wrong!
Not only are these polished more opaque with one coat, but the staying power is unparalleled. I’ve tried O.P.I, Essie, and all the other $8+ polishes out there, but none of them perform the way these two have.
I don’t care if you’re a dude or a chick, at some point in your life, you’ve tried nail polish. Don’t lie. So tell me, why is it that you usually have to remove your nail polish after a few days? That’s right, because it chips.
It’s the same reason we invest so much time and money into gel, shellac, and acrylic manicures; they simply last longer and the color doesn’t chip off nearly as easily. Honestly, I’ll pay you whatever you want, just make it last longer than 4 days!
But not with this polish. No, sir.
I’ve tested both of these polishes a few time now, and both times, I had to remove the polish not because the tips were chipping, but because my nails had grown out too far. Now, that’s impressive.
Yes, these polishes are a little higher up there that those you can grab from the drugstore, but in my opinion, they’re 100% worth every penny. If they can outlast what I pay for at the salon, you can take my whole paycheck for all I care.
This goes for most things, but for the purpose of this blog, it goes for nail polish, specifically; if you invest money in high quality products, you’re going to get a high quality outcome. Yes, my Sally Hansen Insta-Dry is cheaper and looks about as nice when I first apply it, but the staying power isn’t even from the same hemisphere.
Long story short, I’m sorry that I didn’t support Kathleen’s brand when it truly represented her vision. This formula is so special, and I look forward to trying her new brand, Lights Lacquer, in the future.
