2019 Favorites

Settle in, friends. This is gonna be a long one because your girl is feeling chatty.

If I told you that 2019 was rough, it would be the understatement of the year. These last twelve months have been filled with so much change that it was honestly super uncomfortable and I hated most of it.

That being said, I found some pretty rad things that I enjoy a whole lot. And now, well, I’m going to tell you what those things are.

A few of them I’ve talked about in previous blogs. When that’s the case, I’ll try to keep my year-end review short and sweet, but also provide you with a link to my undoubtedly verbose full-length post.

Alright, let’s get this proverbial show on the proverbial road.

Blue Light Glasses
I 💙my Diff Blue Light Glasses. Unfortunately, the style that I have has come and gone, but rest assured that there are many, many more glorious styles on which you can spend your hard earned cash. They save me from countless screen-induced headaches, but more importantly, they make me look cute when I roll out of bed looking like a zombie for 6 am video calls.

Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter
LISTEN. Do you know what’s worse than a lotion that leaves your skin feeling even more dry than when you applied it? Literally nothing. So in an effort to avoid that ungodly feeling, I spend $39 on my body lotion. Is that outrageous? Sure. Am I going to continue doing it? 100%. If you’re the luxe queen lifestyle like I am, then check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Weighted Blanket
Maybe you have someone who loves you and can provide comfort during the long, lonely nights. And that’s like totally cool or whatever I’m definitely not jealous but I certainly don’t have that luxury. I have a cat. You know what cats don’t love? Cuddling. Get yourself a weighted blanket so you can sleep alone, but like cozy and comfortably. 10/10 + added bonus of no boy drama. ✅

Canon M50
This is the camera that I use for most of my content. I got it super early this year in anticipation of my NYC trip and I love it. I’ve been slowly adding to it. I now have a sick microphone, an array of filters (thanks, dad!), a teeny tiny tripod to step up my selfie game, and nifty little carrying case. Get this bad boy on sale and record all your dreams coming true. Or crashing and burning. I don’t know your life.

I can’t say enough good things about Whole 30. This really kickstarted my year in a good way. Yeah, everything started to go downhill promptly after day 31, but that’s neither here nor there. Whole 30 was a great way to establish some healthy eating habits and it helped me discover my love for cooking. Win win. Peep the full blog here.

Hydro Flask
I chatted a little about my love affair with my Hydro Flask in my Mother’s Day Gift Guide but would like to elaborate. At the time, I was using one with the straw lid. I’d like to clarify that I drink SIGNIFICANTLY more water with the wide mouth lid. That is all.

Look how cute this outfit is! American Eagle baby!

American Eagle
Literally anything from American Eagle will make you feel confident about your outfit. I specifically love their jean selection, but haven’t really found a dud yet. Okay hear me out because I’m sure I sound like I’ve been living under a rock and everyone and their mother shops at AW, but up until this year I had been primarily buying jeans from Charlotte Russe, but they closed up shop this year (RIP Charlotte Russe love you forever) so the hunt for new jeans commenced. Lots of people told me that AE was awesome, but they were so pricey that I was hesitant to make the leap. NEVER AGAIN. They’re such good quality and they hold their shape so well and I just love them okay.

Drunk Elephant Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense SPF 30
You guys tired of this one yet? This is my favorite sunscreen. It adds a subtle tint to your face that evens out your skin tone and provides that oh so sweet SPF while checking that greasy sunscreen feel at the door. Trust me, you’re gonna love it. If you need more convincing, check out my full blown rant here

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter
I discovered this bad boy a few months ago and I’m pretty sure I’ve used it every single day since then. The lovely and talented Samantha Ravndahl raves about this on her channel, and I figured, I want to be lovely and talented too, so I must spend these $44 to achieve just that. It leaves your skin looking dewy but not sparkly and just wow. I spoke about my love for this product in a past Sephora Recommendations blog, but just know that this highlight has my heart.

ELF Lip Scrub
Alright this is nothing new. So maybe that’s cheating. But it’s my blog and I do what I want okay! Everybody needs a good lip scrub in their life. If you didn’t know that you should be exfoliating your lips now and again, well…now you do. There are lots of companies out there that will try to convince you that you need to spend a whole lot of money on sugar and oil, but fortunately, ELF isn’t one of them. This godsend is only $4. That’s worth the money just to see if I’m full of it or not. And I’m not. So you’ll just end up with a groovy lip scrub. That is all.

Dior Hydra Life Micellar Milk No Rinse Cleanser
Another thing I successfully adjusted this year was the amount that I was cleansing my skin. I was previously fully cleansing twice a day which was a bit too much for my dry skin, even with my gentle cleanser. Since incorporating this product into my am routine in lieu of a full wash, my skin has retained so much more moisture throughout the day. I don’t know if this product specifically has made a significant difference, or simply the switch to a more gentle cleanse, but I’m happy with it. Plus I feel so bougie with a Dior product in my daily rotation which is a nice bonus.

Foreo Play
Aww yes, another sweet, sweet add. I used to use the Clarasonic Mia and I loved it, don’t get me wrong. It truly stepped up my face wash game. But the foreo doesn’t need brush head replacements and that, my friends, makes all the difference in the world. This little dude is also much more travel friendly, which ensures that my face never sees a bad day no matter where I am in the world. I mean I’m home like 99.98% of the time, but still. Facts are facts.

Thayers Rose Witch Hazel Toner
I used to use a toner with a bunch of alcohol in it because it dried out my skin and I thought that’s what toner was supposed to do. But no, young padawan (Mandalorian, anyone? No? Just me? Okay.), that’s not what toner is supposed to do. So I switched to this toner for that witch hazel magic that helps prevent breakouts and haven’t turned back. Plus, it smells delightful.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid
Do you have dry skin? Do you try everything you can to make it moist? Do you try nothing to solve your problems because you prefer to complain like I do? Either way, I’ve got just the thing! This Hyaluronic Acid sucks in all the moisture from the air around you and keeps your skin looking plump and juicy all day long. Plus it’s $6.80 – WHOA! Check out the full Ode to The Ordinary here.

MILK Makeup Watermelon Brightening Serum
UGH. Love me some Milk Makeup. I’ve spoken about this serum before in my blog about, well, serums. Anyway, it’s great. The roll on packaging isn’t the most hygenic, but my goodness it’s convenient and I’m all about being as lazy as possible so this is right up my alley. Brightens the heck out of your face, so if you’re into that, this could maybe, possibly be your soulmate. You know, but like in a serum.

Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist
Y’all know how much I love Hyaluronic Acid by now, right? Because, like, I do. This puppy melts makeup right into that beautiful face of yours and helps keep you hydrated all day long by sucking the water right out of the air just for you. Because you deserve it.

Pixi Rose Glow Mist
If you’ve ever tried Pixi’s Glow Mist ($15), you know two things. 1. It makes your skin look like a glowy princess. 2. It smells like fish. Not cute. The Rose Glow Mist is just as wonderful as the OG Glow Mist, but smells like something you’d actually want to put on your face. This will make the most matte beat beam to the heavens. Comparable to the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist ($48) but at a fraction of the cost. 15/48 to be exact. I thought I could make that into a cooler fraction, but I cannot because that is in its most reduced form. Basic math for the win.

SUGAR Mint Rush Freshening Lip Treatment
HOLY COW I’VE BEEN WRITING FOR LIKE A MILLION YEARS. I really enjoy lip treatments. They work so much better than your average chapstick and they last quite a bit longer which is also preferable. We all know how much I love the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, and if you don’t, then click that little link and you will shortly. Anyway, for all of its glory, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is not super convenient to apply on the go. You get your fingers all goopy and it’s easy to overapply leaving your lips feeling not so cute. This is better and leaves that minty cooling sensation that everyone and their mother simply can’t get enough of.

SUGAR Lemon Hydrating Lip Balm
While lemon isn’t my most favorite of scents, this balm is to die for. It’s like a thicker version of the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, but feels more balmy and less goopy. This is my preferred balm for the daytime and it comes in four delicious scents that I simply can’t get enough of.

Living Proof Double Pint Ceramic Round Brush
I’ve never been one to do my hair. I just haven’t. I have decently long hair and I’ll suck it up and style it when I have places to be, but most days you’ll catch me with a messy (dirty) bun. Recently, I decided to be a human and either embrace my hair or chop it off. So now I try to at least blow dry my hair after I shower and go from there. This brush is super expensive, probably unnecessarily so if I’m being honest, but it leaves my hair so stinking soft and cuts my blow dry time down significantly. Highly recommend.

Briogeo Scalp Revival Charcoal + Biotin Dry Shampoo
Have you read my blog about my favorite dry shampoos? Well, you can basically disregard it because this is truly the best dry shampoo. It leaves your hair so clean without that gross gritty feeling in your roots. I’ll never try anything else as long as I live. Okay maybe that’s a little dramatic, but I’m certainly happy with it and it’s going to take a lot to get me to switch.

Pro Tip: When you use dry shampoo, give your hair a quick hit with a blow dryer to soak up any last bits of oil. Makes all the difference and leaves your hair more voluminous.

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
I don’t know if this actually counts as a 2019 favorite because I’ve been using this stuff for years…when I remembered. Recently, over the past few months, I’ve been using this serum like my life depends on it. It’s basically like that Kendrick Lamar song, Swimming Pools? Out of the shower? Serum. Blow drying my hair? Serum. Styling my hair? Serum. Re-styling my hair 6 days post-wash? Serum. It just leaves my hair so shiny and soft, and as long as you’re keeping it at the ends of your hair, it never creates any oil in your roots. Plus it smells lovely.

Living Proof Dry Volume Blast
Know what doesn’t smell great? This volumizing spray. It smells terrible, but works like an absolute dream. A quick spritz of this bad boy right after the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum, and you’ll be serving Farrah Fawcett fierceness honey. Volume up to the gods.

Bed Head Wave Artist
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.**
1. Thou givest me glorious beachy waves unlike any other styling tool.
2. Thou hast all the right settings so that I may tailor each experience to exactly whatever fickle mood I’m in.
3. I love thee most of all because thou makest my hair look wonderful for a full week post-wash. There will never be another love like thine.
**I’m not actually from the 1500’s, so please excuse any egregious grammatical errors.

Viktor & Rolf Bonbon
OHMYGOSHTHISPERFUMESMELLSSOGOOD. Like a warm caramel dream. Never met anyone who didn’t enjoy this perfume, and it smells delightful on everyone I’ve forced this upon…which is a lot of people.

Top Notes: Mandarin Oil, Orange Blossom
Middle Notes: Jasmine Accord
Base Notes: Cedar, Guaiac Wood, Caramel

Replica By the Fireplace
I spoke about this fragrance in my Sephora Sale Recommendations Blog recently and my love for it has yet to subside. My friend tells me that I smell like the lumber aisle of Home Depot, but baby if smelling like the lumber aisle of Home Depot is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

Top Notes: Pink Pepper, Orange Flower Petals, Clove Oil
Middle Notes: Chestnut Accord, Gaïac Wood Oil, Cade Oil
Base Notes: Vanilla Accord, Peru Balsam, Cashmeran

Well folks, we’ve officially made it to the end of another blog and another year. I’m coming up on my one year anniversary of this blog, and although consistency has certainly not been my strong suit, I’ve had a great time sharing my aggressive opinions with you. I hope you’ve learned a thing or two along the way, or at the very least found some new loves to add into your rotation. Leave me a comment below with your favorites from the year as well as anything you’d like to see in the new year.

Sending you much love and happy vibes for 2020.

xoxo, Angelica ✌
